best boxing gloves
One of the things I love about boxing is it has a relatively low barrier to entrance, especially when compared to other sports. a boxer needs hand wraps, gloves, and a mouthpiece and they’re good to go. with On Target Training PDX we offer a pair of gloves and wraps with our quick start program for only 19 dollars along with 3 free classes and a half hour intro lesson with one of our trainers, so this component is covered. but what if those intro gloves are starting to get a little worn out? or maybe someone on the Christmas list loves to box and you’d like to get them a new pair? below is some tips to picking the right boxing glove for the boxers in your life.
first off, you get what you pay for. good gloves aren’t cheap and cheap gloves don’t last. you’ll need to budget for 60-90 dollars to get a good, sturdy pair of gloves. there are cheaper options out there but they tend to lead to hand injury or wear out so fast you’ll end up buying twice as many of them. brands like Everlast are good intro gloves but aren’t suited for more serious use. I like ringside, ravager, or title for a mid level glove that sits at a good balance of cost verse durability.
secondly, the glove has to fit! anyone with small hands should be using society nine gloves. the Bia is a great intro glove from this local Portland company, and their high end gloves are well worth the extra money.
lastly, as nice and professional as lace up gloves are, it becomes a hassle for the boxer or the coach to constantly be lacing fighters into and out of their gloves. if you want to purchase lace up gloves grab a set of lace’n’loop adapters so you get the support of laces with the convenience of Velcro.
take care!
